Once you’re at the beginning of your trail follow your offline maps so that you never get lost.

MapMyHike – Android, Apple

Looking to track every detail of your hike but don’t have a dedicated GPS tracking system then MapMyHike has you covered. MapMyHike uses your phone sensors to track and log your hiking route, complete with info on pace, distance, calorie use and route navigation. MapMyHike offers a great community element allowing you to view others hikes and allow you to compete against them for the best time/distance.

Weather Underground (WU) – Android, Apple

Even if the weather is looking great in the morning it’s always best to be sure what you’re getting yourself into before you leave the house. WU uses the standard NEXRAD radar data system that all weather apps function on but in addition to this WU has 200,000 weather stations across the world adding to this data making it the most powerful tool on the market. An amazing feature of this app is first light/last light, all apps tell you when the sun will rise but WU tells you when exactly it will get dark, which is key to getting home safely.

If your hike turns into a camping trip then you need to make the most of your time in nature and take in the wonder of the stars with Star Walk. Star Walk is the most beautiful stargazing app you’ve ever seen on a mobile device.
