Who are Team LifeProof? How did they rise to fame at their chosen sport? What LifeProof products do they use and why? Over the next eight weeks we will introduce you to the team, we will scratch beneath the surface to give you the inside scoop.
First up, German FMX rider from Luc Ackermann is a show stopper in the FMX arena, he can always be recognised by his electric performances. Luc pulls every trick out of the bag to make the podium, even if that means hitting the dirt. Luc was the youngest athlete ever to land a backflip on a motorbike at the tender age of 12. He is now 20 and considered one of the top talents in FMX in Europe.
We caught up with Luc just before he jets off to the X Games Minneapolis on 20th July Luc reached 7th place in the MotoX Freestyle contest and 7th place in the Best Trick contest. He made a great impression on his debut, showcasing the double backflip, surfer tsunami flip, flair, egg roll, holygrab, seatgrab flip and 360. Unfortunately, on the second run he had a crash, which cost him in terms of podium positioning. Luc will return to the training track hungry for future titles and experiences at the X Games.
Q. TELL US ABOUT HOW YOU GOT INTO YOUR SPORT?
A. My older brother Hannes started with FMX in 2003. So I got hit with Freestyle Motocross pretty early. At the age of 3 to 5 years I rode my first minibike. From that on I wanted to do FMX.
Q. WHAT TIP WOULD YOU GIVE PEOPLE STARTING OUT IN YOUR SPORT?
A. You need to get a feeling for the bike. To start riding Motocross Is a good step into it. You have small jumps on the track, so getting from there to the ramps should make it a bit easier.
Q. WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WHAT YOU DO?
A. The time when you take off the ramp and feel the zero gravity. You are feeling free for 2 seconds and land the trick hopefully.
Q. WHO INSPIRES YOU?
A. Definitely Travis Pastrana.
Q. DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER HOBBIES/PASSIONS?
A. Going to the gym, electronic music festivals, and driving everything that has 2 or 4 wheels.
Q. WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT TO DATE?
A. The world record of the youngest backflip on a motorcycle in 2010 at the NIGHT of the JUMPs in Cologne brought me to a lot of shows in Europe. This was my step into the international FMX scene. Of course the youngest double backflip on a motorcycle last October. To dial this trick to dirt and put it into my contest run helped me to win the European FMX Championship.
Q. WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR 2018 HIGHLIGHT SO FAR?
A. Definitely the FIM European FMX Championship title at the NIGHT of the JUMPs series.
Q. WHAT DO YOU HAVE COMING UP FOR THE REST OF 2018?
A. My main focus is the FIM Freestyle MX World Championship. There are 5 more contests in October and November and I'd do anything to stay on the podium at the end of the year.
Q. WHICH LIFEPROOF CASE DO YOU USE?
A. At the moment I’m using the LifeProof NËXT case for my iPhone. It’s DropProof, SnowProof and DirtProof. Perfect for me.
Q. HOW HAS LIFEPROOF BEEN BENEFICIAL TO YOU?
A. I’m on a FMX track training for 5 hours every day, as you can imagine my phone falls a lot. When I’ve been on the caterpillar my phone has fallen a lot into the dirt, how that’s what you call DropProof and DirtProof!
Q. TELL US ABOUT A TIME WHEN YOUR LIFEPROOF CASE HAS SAVED THE DAY.
A. I was in the airport flying to a Night of the Jump’s contest and was pretty late because of having so much luggage. I had to run through the terminal, when my phone dropped out of my pocket onto the ground. All my information for the trip was on phone, so I was fearful to pick up my phone as I thought it would be smashed. Thankfully, LifeProof saved the day.
